Data Analyst I
Visual Connections, LLC is seeking a savvy and enthusiastic analytical mind adept at creating queries, writing reports and presenting findings. This role will support the MPIC strategic plan, data analysis and reporting initiatives. Strong verbal and written communication, multitasking and time management skills are key to success in this role. The ideal candidate will be able to consume, process and analyze large datasets in collaboration with other analysts, investigators, and subject matter experts.
Position Type: Full Time (9am – 5pm Eastern; 40 hours/week)
Location: Visual Connections Office or Remote
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform data collection and analysis of key data elements from various sources
Develop and distribute standard reports, custom reports, and data files using SAS Enterprise Guide, COGNOS BI and MS Office tools.
Interpret data and analyze results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports
Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
Work closely with management to prioritize business and information needs
Initially validate results to ensure data integrity of the reports and/or files produced
Work with internal customers on custom data reporting and file requests to define requirements, create queries to meet requirements, conduct testing, and execute import/export processes
Required Experience/Education:
BA/BS degree (or equivalent experience) Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, Economics, Statistics or a related field
1-2 years of experience working as an analyst
Knowledge of relational databases and database querying language (e.g. SQL)
1+ years of experience using SAS for the querying and analysis of data
Ability to use Base SAS to write programs using data steps (in addition to general PROC SQL) with oversight from senior data analyst/statistician
Ability to work independently to construct queries and review output to create initial trend identification
Ability to effectively communicate analysis results to technical and non-technical audiences
Advanced Excel skills including formulas, pivot tables, charting, and data tables
Core Competencies:
Advanced level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Working knowledge of database architecture and ability to effectively map data, as well as run basic SQL queries to analyze large complex data sets and troubleshoot
Acute attention to detail and strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate results of data analysis to a variety of stakeholders
Motivation to achieve individual and team goals, must be able to work independently and in a team environment
Ability to learn and apply industry-specific concepts
Adaptable to change and able to work independently and as part of a team
Strong problem analysis skills to include the use of mathematical concepts to validate results
Clearance Requirements:
Must be able to obtain and maintain Public Trust
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using R, Python, SAS Visual Analytics and/or JMP for data analysis and data visualization
Familiarity with Remote and telework technologies like Skype and WebEx
Experience in healthcare and government sector a plus
Experience accessing and analyzing government databases and particularly the CMS Multi-dimensional Data Analytic System (MIDAS) as well as state-level data
Professional analytical experience with demonstrated experience and knowledge of health care insurance (e.g., private insurance, Medicare, Medicaid) and health care claims information (e.g., health insurance enrollment data, claims data, health care coding)
