Medical Records Coder/Analyst Internship
Visual Connections, LLC is seeking new or recent graduates with an AHIMA or AAPC credential (listed below) for a paid internship opportunity. Participants will be offered an intense RADV diagnosis coding training opportunity for a period of 90 days. A certificate of completion will be awarded to all participants who successfully complete the 90-day program.
Duties:
Analyze protected health information according to project specific rules.
Participates in the Intake and Coding Processing of records
Assigns ICD-9/10-CM codes according to the guidelines as defined by the AHA
Discusses project related discrepancies with Team Lead(s)
Maintain coding credentials and continuing education hours
Possess and maintains a current and comprehensive understanding of coding rules, changes, and guidelines as defined by the AHA.
Attendance at VA, VC/Axis, and CMS sponsored meetings and trainings as a participant
Continuous review, application, and familiarity with CMS issued RADV guidelines and coder tools
Completing Quality Assurance reviews as a member of the coder team
Meeting defined production standards, completing production logs daily and completely
Active attendance in training (new hire, project specific, and/or retraining for performance improvement) as directed
Communication with Team Lead based on coaching and general questions
Managing time, including daily time reporting in PROCAS, and other mechanisms, as defined
Maintain an online presence during scheduled workday – Outlook is the primary mode of project communication with the client and project management. Acknowledge and respond to emails as received.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge in abstracting and ICD-9/ICD-10 coding of general acute hospital (inpatient and outpatient) and physician medical records by applying ICD-9/ICD-10 Coding Guidelines for inpatient and outpatient settings and related Official Coding Clinics.
Knowledge in anatomy and physiology, pathology of disease and medical terminology required.
Ability to write appropriate correspondence and effectively communicate with other members of VC/Axis personnel, clients, and customers, as necessary.
Must adhere to AHIMA Code of Ethics or AAPC Code of Ethics
Licenses/Certification
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), or CCS-P (Certified Coding Specialist – Physician Based)
Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
Pay Rate: $27.00 per hour
